Principles of Holistic Dentistry

Dr. Weston A. Price began his nutrition research as a dentist, and, not surprisingly, formulated a number of principles for dental health.

Eat nutrient-dense whole foods.
Further, your food should be properly grown and prepared. Note that good dental health begins with the diet of both parents, so foster your unborn's dental health along with your own.

Avoid root canals.
Dr. Price conducted extensive research into the destructive effects of root canals. Though his conclusions were ignored by the orthodox dental establishment for over 50 years, they are gaining acceptance as holistic practitioners discover that the first step to recovery from degenerative disease often involves removal of all root canals in the patient's mouth. If you suspect root canals are causing trouble, have them removed by a knowledgeable dentist.

Avoid mercury (amalgam) fillings.
See our information file on mercury. If you have amalgam fillings and suspect they are causing trouble, have them removed by a holistic dentist who specializes in mercury filling replacement.

Take special care with orthodontics and extraction.
Orthodontics should include measures to widen the palate. When it is necessary to extract teeth, avoid leaving the jawbone with cavitations, which can be focal points of infection.
